Detroit, really? Damn. Here I thought George Mikan and Bud Grant's old team was a Minnesota (actually Minneapolis) original.

Quote:
The Oilers played in Memphis in 1997 because the Coliseum hadn't been completed yet because the Oilers were supposed to play 1997 in the Astrodome. The City if Houston, Bud Adams, and the NFL negotiated a release of their lease 1 year early due to pathetic crowds where you could hear swear words on TV. So when they left (In July) for Tennessee, Their only option was the Liberty Bowl in Memphis because Vanderbilt Stadium didn't allow the sale of alcohol due to its location on campus. The Oilers held training camp and practice at Tennessee State University in Nashville and rode a bus to Memphis on sunday mornings. After piss poor crowds in Memphis and a general lack of enthusiasm about the team and Bud Adams negotiated an out early in Memphis and played 1998 in Vanderbilt Stadium. The Titans have sold out every game since the preseason of 1999. All my facts came from the book " Oiler Blues - The story of pro footballs most frustrating franchise. "
